ESD is a lifelong learning process and an integral part of quality education that enhances cognitive, social and emotional and behavioural dimensions of learning. It is holistic and transformational and encompasses learning content and outcomes; empowering people of all genders, for present and future generations, while respecting cultural diversity. ESD is recognized as a key enabler of all SDGs and achieves its purpose by transforming society.
Vision & Mission
Education for Sustainable Development largely aims to help people to develop the attitudes, skills and knowledge to make informed decisions for the benefit of themselves and others, now and in the future, and to act upon these decisions. ESD is hoped to meet the needs of the present without compromising those for future generations.
It is a vision of education for development that encompasses knowledge of ecosystems, natural resources and social justice concerns such as the fight against poverty, gender inequality, and human rights, among other key human development topics; giving students the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values to become socially responsible global citizens and shape a sustainable future.
SkoolMe IRETI cuts broadly across several thematic Education for Sustainable Transformation focus areas.
Some of which which include:
Human Rights Education
Human rights education (HRE) is the learning process that seeks to buildup knowledge, values, and proficiency in the rights that each person is entitled to. According to Amnesty International, HRE is a way to empower people, training them so their skills and behaviors will promote dignity and equality within their communities, societies, and throughout the world.
Climate Education
The main goals of climate education include building a sustainable future, inspiring action and practicing influencing skills at the social and personal levels. It is imperative not only to learn to understand climate change in-depth but also to change one’s own behaviour and actions.
Cultural Education
Cultural education consists in the development of all arts and heritage forms (music, language, literature, etc.). It contributes to knowledge transfer, personal development and participation in society. Cultural education enables people to discover ways of learning and communicating which are respectful to themselves and others. It promotes historical awareness, contributes to understanding individual identities and encourages creative, inquisitive attitudes that can benefit them throughout their lives.
